Bottled in 2016, the Rhetoric 22 year old Bourbon is part of the Orphan Barrel Project and is the third of the annual Rhetoric bottlings which are released progressively to show what extended aging will do to a ‘control batch' of familiar-tasting bourbon. Distilled in 1994, these barrels were reportedly “found in the old Stitzel-Weller warehouses” with the distillate cited as coming from Bernheim Distillery prior to that. Finished to 90.4 proof, Orphan Barrel Rhetoric 22 Year Bourbon is composed of a mash bill derived from 86% corn, 8% malted barley, and 6% rye. Crafted from such a prized distillate, this coveted offering is estimated to become an eventual rarity and a true collectible. The nose opens with wafts of vanilla, summer florals, and caramel over hints of lemon and orchard apples. On the palate are bold notes of cinnamon, pepper, and red hot candies layered between oak and allspice.
Rhetoric 22-Year-Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is the eighth release from the Orphan Barrel Whiskey Distilling Company and the third in the Rhetoric series of progressively aged whiskeys. Aged two years longer than the first release, it is slightly more mature and carries a higher proof.
